Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar today organized a day long continuing Medical Education (CME) cum Live Colposcopy workshop for screening and diagnosis of cervical cancer.The workshop was organized in association with National Health Mission and Directorate of Health Services Jammu.Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo, who was the chief guest on the occasion, stressed on the need for making screening facilities available in all the health institutions of J&K to tackle with this serious ailment.  He said that only timely screening and detection of the disease, when it is in pre-cancerous stage, can curtail its further progress.He said every year 1.23 lakh new cases of cervical cancers are diagnosed and 67,500 deaths occur in India due to cervical cancers which is certainly a matter of grave concern.President Association of Gynaecology of India, Dr K L Gupta while sharing his experiences regarding the subject, threw light on cancer scenario among the women in India and laid stress on the importance of awareness among general masses about the preventive aspect and early diagnosis of the disease.Medical Superintendent, Govt Hospital Gandhinagar Jammu and Patron of the CME, Dr Chander Prakash, while presenting vote of thanks, said that all efforts would be made to ensure screening services in all the base level health institutions for timely detection and treatment of this disease.Among others who attended the workshop included Director Health Services Jammu, Dr Renu Sharma; Master Trainer in Cervical Cancer, Dr Priya Ganesh Kumar, Dr Atual Gupta, Dr Shafeeka Bano, Dr Samita Bhat, Dr Amandeep Kaur, Dr Mamta Kalsi and Dr Asha Manhas.
