Amid the reports of inadequate facilities to Kashmiri caged leaders, the officials in the district administration claimed that the estimated cost for the food to these leaders is Rs five lakh per month at MLA Hostel Srinagar.Official sources while divulging the details told the wire service –Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Rs 500 is being spent on the food of a single political leader, lodged at MLA hostel in Srinagar, which is thrice greater than the normal jail. “In normal jail, Rs 129 is being spent for the food of a detainee. But, the government spends Rs 500 for the food of a single caged leader,” they said.The mainstream leaders affiliated with different political parties were put under detention on August 5, when the central government abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370) and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories. The leaders were first lodged at Centaur here and were shifted to MLA hostel on August 17.“Every facilities according to the jail manual are being provided to these leaders. We have been providing them healthy food with eggs, butter and other things,” they said, adding that the leaders are not being deprived of anything as every good and best facilities are being provided to them. They further added that the leaders are being provided chicken twice a week.“The estimated cost being spent on the food of a single leader per day is Rs 500,” they said. According to the figure, Rs 16500 are being spent on the food of 33 leaders who are caged since August 5.According to the figures provided to KNO by the official sources, Rs 495,000 are being spent on these leaders for their food stuff in the month.
