Principal Secretary Animal, Sheep and Fisheries Department Dr. Asghar Hassan Samoon today inaugurated Embryo Transfer Technology (ETT) Lab here.Director Sheep Husbandry Kashmir Dr Abdul Salam Mir was also present on the occasion.Dr Samoon, on the occasion said that with the commissioning of laboratory, upto 50 lambs can be produced per year in comparison to natural mating of 1-3 lambs per year. He also said that Lab will help in creation of repository of elite germoplasm besides production of disease resistant animals. Dr Samoon directed for deployment of additional staff with expertise in required field in the laboratory.Later Dr Samoon visited Frozen Semen Laboratory Ranbirbagh Ganderbal and took stock of facilities there. He was accompanied by Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir Purnima Mittal.Dr Samoon went through different sections of laboratory and interacted with staff there. He stressed on production of world class Germplasm for Artificial Insemination (AI) and Embryos for genetic up-gradation and transformation of livestock wealth with the aim of enhancing their productivity and production.He also asked the officials to produce most fertile germplasm for increasing conception rate besides harvesting, processing and supplying quality and pathogen free germplasm to all AI centers.Dr Samoon directed the officials to observe strict regimen for good hygienic practices and HACCP guidelines for production of superior quality germplasm.During the last leg of the tour, he visited Goabal Sheep farm and Mamar Fish farm and to took stock of facilities available there and reviewed the scope for upgradation.
