On the eve of Diwali festival, one day awareness rally on the theme “Eat Right Jammu” was organized by Food Safety Wing of Municipal Limit Jammu in collaboration with 2nd Bn. NCC Girls Wing Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.Flagged off by Commissioner, Food & Drugs Administration, J&K, Vinod Sharma from Green Field Ground, the rally passed through Gandhi Nagar area viz., Aquaf Market, Gole Market and adjoining areas. A large number of participants comprising students of Gandhi Nagar, Parade, MAM and GGM Science colleges , NCC Cadets, Officers from the concerned Department, Lecturers, Teachers and NGOs spread awareness among the common masses and food business operators about benefits of adopting right eating habits for better health.The participants carried various placards with slogans like – “Eat Right Stay Fit”, “Say No to Junk Food”, “Say No to Ajino Moto in Food”, “Say No to Color Additives” and “Say No to Polythene”.The Commissioner exhorted upon the participants to promote the use of less quantity of salt, sugar and oil, eating balanced diet and nutritious food and look at food labels before buying any packaged and pre-packaged food. He appreciated the efforts of all the participants in making the rally successful. He further added that such awareness program shall continue in future in the interest of general public.Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu, Dr. Parvesh Kumar said that the main objective of the rally was to create awareness among the masses towards the importance of ideal consumption of sugar, fat and salt as lack of awareness is the main reason for a large number of people from the city suffering from lifestyle-related issues and diseases like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, heart ailments etc. Irrespective of age, everyone is suffering from various non-communicable diseases only because of poor lifestyle and dieting pattern, he added.
