As the government has directed the school authorities to waive off the fees to the students for the period of its closure, the Power Development Department (PDD) too seems considering the waiving off the electricity bills to its consumers as the department has utterly failed to deliver the electricity bills to its consumers from last three months in Kashmir. The electricity bills to the consumers were being served up to 10th of every month, but the residents have not received their electricity bills from the month of July.“We have not received the electricity bills since August this year. We don’t even know why the delay has occurred in sending the electricity bills to the consumers,” the residents told the wire service Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, adding that it would led to the sufferings of people when they will be asked to pay the hefty amount in one go.“The government has though asked the school administration not to ask students to pay the fee of closure days, it should also waive off the electricity bills to the people as the local residents here were not able to run their businesses from last 65 days,” the residents in Srinagar City said, adding that the government must not ignore the sufferings of people.

Sources in the Power Development Department (PDD) however told KNO that the monthly electricity bills for many areas have not even been printed out so far. “We don’t know what actually the department is going to in this regard but the delay in issuing the bills to the consumers may be the outcome of the continuous strike by the employees who are protesting against the process of ‘unbundling’ of the department from September 10.The local residents here have demanded authorities to waive off their monthly electricity charges for the period of uncertainty so that they could heave of sigh of relief. (KNO)
