The prevailing uncertainty in the aftermath of the abrogation of the special status and the bifurcation of J&K into two Union territories has caused a huge set back to the youth of the valley who are pursuing their careers at various institutes, colleges, and universities. After meeting scores of students pursuing higher education, Kashmir News Observer (KNO) team was told by the students State administration was playing with their future by focusing on the reopening of schools rather than the colleges and universities in the region. In the aftermath of the revocation of the special status of the state and bifurcation of the same into two Union Territories, the State authorities imposed restrictions forcing the colleges and the universities to suspend their classwork’s in the region since August 05.Asrar Sofi, a postgraduate student from the University of Kashmir told wire services—KNO,” I see no future in Kashmir, as I regret the decision of pursuing my higher education at a place where not only the Universities are lock-down for months but the basic communication and the internet is gagged too.”He told the wire services—KNO that a school going children can be taught at home by his parents or elder ones but a University level student needs an expertise of his subject particularly at a time when he have no other option to rely on.Sofi further told the wire service KNO, “The State Government completely ignored us at this crucial juncture when we are sitting idle at home with no access to internet, library, and lecture rooms.”Another student of Central University, Kashmir Shazia Mir told the wire service KNO, “I am still in a state of shock for what they have done to us, our career is completely ruined by the prevailing uncertainty and the communication gag. The State Government restricted every source of information which could be vital for the student community of Kashmir to compensate their academic losses caused due to the closure of the educational institutes in the region.”She told the wire service KNO that she is surprised by the policies of such officers of the state who are highly qualified like IAS, KAS, IPS, KPS as how can they gag a service from which a student can benefit from?Shazia further told the wire service—KNO, “I humbly urge the present state administration to lift the curbs on the communication in general and internet in particular so that we can carry on our education at home till the time of reopening of our respective colleges and Universities throughout the valley. As our career is on stake due to the ongoing uncertainty and internet block down.”(KNO)
