In the wake of embankment damage at village Tendiwala due to heavy discharge of water from Pakistan, the Cabinet Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Chander Gaind and SSP Vivek S. Soni today visited the village to oversee the work of repairing the damaged embankment.Having inspected the repair work, the minister reiterated the commitment of the State Government to compensate every single penny of the loss incurred by people due to floods, adding that he has directed the Deputy Commissioner to prepare a report of loss within 15 days be it the damage of houses, livestock, and crops and submit it with the government.Mr. Sodhi said that the State Government would stand by the people in this hour of crisis and will leave no stone unturned to help the people affected. He further added that it was the alertness of the district administration that the repair work of damaged embankment was started just after receiving the information; otherwise, it could have brought havoc over the villages.The minister also stated that the state government has already sought relief package of Rs. 1000 Crore for Punjab from the central government and to push this demand Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh would meet the central government.The minister had a meeting with the residents of village Tendiwala and paid Rs. 15000 from his pocket as compensation incurred by the villagers as fuel expenses to repair the embankment. He asked district administration to pay the other expenses to the villages as well, which were incurred by them while doing this repair job.The minister lauded the efforts of Deputy Commissioner Chander Gaind to deploy Army and NDRF team well in time to repair the damaged embankment besides deputing teams of health and other key departments to combat any kind of flood-like situation. Mr. Sodhi revealed that this situation came up due to heavy water discharge from Pakistan, which caused severe damage to the embankment, adding that the danger is over now as the embankment has been secured.
