Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Kulwant Singh today exhorted the students to be ambassadors of conserving the water table in district by participating zealously in ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’. Interacting with the students after launching an awareness drive regarding water crisis under ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ here at local Government Girls Senior Secondary School Ladowali Road, the Deputy Commissioner urged the students to work on multi-pronged strategy for saving the depleting ground water table in district. He said that besides awareness drive, reducing the  wastage of water, recharging of water bodies, optimum utilization of rain water, afforestaion and others must be on the agenda of the students. Mr. Kulwant Singh said that the water table was depleting in the state at an alarming rate and all of us especially the youth must come forward for saving it.The Deputy Commissioner cautioned the students that state could transform into desert if necessary action to check the wastage of water was not taken by them. He said that the excessive exploitation of water needs to be checked at every cost for which every individual should play their own role. Mr. Kulwant Singh said that we were the first generation to feel the pinch due to shortage of water and probably would the last generation that could make strenuous efforts for saving water.The Deputy Commissioner asked the students to disseminate the message of ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ in every household of the district. He said that this would help in sensitizing the people about this grave issue of immense public importance. Mr. Kulwant Singh also asked the students to give full support for making ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ a mass campaign to save the depleting ground water level in the district. On the occasion Sub Divisional Officer Soil Conservation Mr. Lupinder Singh, Principal of School Mrs. Sunita Sahota Randhawa, Deputy District Education Officer Mr. Anil Awasthi and others were also present.
