Patiala Member Parliament  Preneet Kaur today inaugurated the Banur Canal System Project on the banks of Ghaggar river near village Chhat Beer, which would provide irrigation facilities on around 50,000 acres land of 40 villages of Rajpura, Mohali and Dera Bassi sub divisions. She also launched plantation drive to mark the 550th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji by planting a sapling here.Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Kaur said that the long pending demand of people of Rajpura constituency has met with the initiation of this canal project. Clearing doubts of the farmers of other villages, she categorically said that adequate water will be released to the farmers of all the villages by strictly adhering to the agreement between the farmers and the government. She apprised that currently, 50 cusec water has been released in this canal, which will helpful for farmers in this paddy season.Addressing the gathering, MLA Ghanaur Mr. Madan Lal Jalalpur said that farmers of Patiala constituency would get adequate water as per the agreement. Rajpura MLA Mr. Hardayal Kamboj said that this project will provide proper irrigation facility to the farmers, which would resultantly decrease the demand of power for agriculture purposes. Congratulating farmers for this project, Congress District President Mr. Deepinder Singh Dhillon stated that with the initiation of this canal water project, the irrigation water issue has been resolved. He said that farmers have fought long time for the project, after which the agreement between the farmers and the government for the release of water was accorded.Baba Dilbagh Singh Kar Sewa Wale, SDM Dera Bassi Mrs. Puja Syal, Divisional Forest Officer Mr. Gur Amanpreet Singh, DSP Raghuvir Singh, Executive Engineer Irrigation Mr. Chander Mohan Sharma, Comrade Gurdarshan Singh and Chaudhary Mohammad Sadiq Banur of Nehar Banauo Sangharsh Committee and MC Mr. Gyan Chand Banur on this occasion.
