The deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday directed the Agriculture and allied departments to sensitize the farmers about various programs launched by Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for ensuring the maximum benefits to the farmers in the district.Presiding over a meeting to review the working of agriculture and allied sector here at District administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that the stateHe told that the agriculture department along with others like Horticulture, Dairy, and Animal Husbandry, Fishery, Irrigation, Forest, Markfed and others must chalk out a joint strategy for ensuring the prosperity of the farmers.Meanwhile, during the meeting, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Nazar Singh informed that the department has organized one district-level farmers’ training camp, 10 blocks and 53 village level. He also told that the department has collected 80 samples of seeds of various crops out of which seven tested fail and notices have been issued to concerns.

He said that the department has been organizing 100 drip irrigation demonstrations on maize crops in the district which can save the groundwater up to 75 percent. He said that Rs 1.35 lakh is the cost of laying the demonstration on one-acre and the farmers’ will contribute only Rs 10,000 and the rest amount will be borne by the state government. Similarly, the officials from horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Dairy, and other departments detailed the works carried out by them to facilitate the farmers in the previous month.Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner also released a digital news bulletin prepared by the department so that the farmers can get valuable information about various aspects and the same will be shared with the farmers on WhatsApp groups, facebook, and others.On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Nazar Singh, Agriculture Officer Mr. Naresh Gultai and others were present.
