General Election Observer I Samuel Anand Kumar, Expenditure Observer Amit Shukla, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal today gave clarion call to students to strengthen democracy by voting enthusiastically during the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Addressing the gathering during a district level awareness function organized under the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program here at the local HMV College, the General Observer, Election Observer, Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that by exercising their franchise the students could become active partners in the socio-economic growth of the country. They said that the time was high when every student must pledge that they would cast their votes in upcoming polls and ensure that democracy was further strengthened at the grass-root level. They said that it was the moral duty of all the citizens of the country to ensure that the aspirations of our forefathers of Indian freedom struggle were fulfilled wit active participation of people in polls.The General Observer, Election Observer, Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that it was the need of hour to awaken the people especially the youngsters about their democratic rights. 

They said that main aim of organizing such events was to ensure that students must take message of significance of being an elector back at their homes and further convey it to their parents, pears and relatives to apprise them of importance of being a voter in a democratic country. They said that in modern era Right to vote was the most important asset in the life of every individual as through this they could elect their representatives in a free and fair manner.Earlier, Lauding the efforts made by the district administration led by the Deputy Commissioner to sensitize the people on issue of voting rights, District SVEEP icons and renowned singers Master Salim and Ms. Simar  Kaur along with Radio Jockey Pak Pak Deepak said that it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction for them to be part of this campaign. They also called upon the students to vote enthusiastically for securing the future of coming generations. On the occasion, the teams of district administration apprised the young voters about the working of the EVM and VVPAT machines. A human chain was also organized in the college campus to make the students aware of the voting rights. Likewise, a number of cultural items were also performed to sensitize youth about voting rights.The Principal of college Dr. Ajay Sareen welcomed the dignitaries to the college.Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioners Mr. Kulwant Singh and Mr. Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisonal Magistrates Mr. Paramveer Singh and Mr. Sanjiv Sharma, Secretary Regional Transport Authority Dr. Nayan Jassal, District SVEEP Coordinator Mr. Surjit Lal and others.
