Election Commission of India has directed that all electors of Himachal Pradesh, who have been issued with their Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs), shall have to produce these cards to exercise their franchise when they come to the polling stations for voting on 7th May, 2014. Election Commission has also informed that if any elector fails to produce his/her EPIC such electors shall have to produce any of the alternative photo documents for establishing their identity:- 

Passport,

Driving  License, 

Service Identity Cards with Photograph issued to its employees by State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Public Limited                                       Companies,  

Passbooks with Photograph issued by Banks/Post Office,

PAN Card,

Aadhar Card,

Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR, 

MNREGA Job Card,

Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the Scheme of Ministry of Labour,

Pension document with photograph and

Authenticated Photo Voter Slip issued by the election machinery.

This was disclosed by Narinder Chauhan, Chief Electoral Officer, Himachal Pradesh here, today. Election Commission has clarified that in the case of EPIC, clerical errors, spelling mistake, etc. should be ignored provided the identity of the elector can be established by the EPIC. If an elector produces an Elector Photo Identity Card, which has been issued by the Electoral Registration Officer of another Assembly Constituency, such EPICs shall also be accepted for identification provided the name of that elector find place in the electoral roll pertaining to the polling station where the elector has turned up for voting. If it is not possible to establish the identity of the elector on account of mismatch of photograph, etc. the elector shall have to produce one of the alternative photo documents mentioned above.     

Notwithstanding anything mentioned above, overseas electors who are registered in the electoral rolls under Section 20A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, based on the particulars in their passport, shall be identified on the basis of their original passport only (and no other identity document) in the polling station.Narinder Chauhan appealed to all the electors to take note of these directions of the commission and bring their Electors Photo Identity Cards or any one of the above alternative documents on poll day i.e. 7th May, 2014.Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Sh. Vineet Chaudhary and Dr.MV Padma, Prof Neurology at AIIMS, New Delhi   addressing to media person in a press conference at Shimla, today.
