Principal Secretary Home Shaleen Kabra laid the foundation stone of newly sanctioned Government Degree College at Chenani in presence of District Development Commissioner Udhampur Dr. Piyush Singla here on Friday.On the occasion, Kabra said that a long pending demand of the people of the area for a degree college has been fulfilled. He said Governor’s administration is committed to take quality higher education in rural and far-flung areas of the State.He further said that PWD (R&B) Department has been entrusted with the job of construction of the college with all modern and requisite amenities within stipulated time.While congratulating the people of the area, Kabra said that the establishment of GDC at Chenani would benefit about 80000 population of 45 surrounding villages of the said Tehsil. The Principal Secretary said that 97 kanals and 19 Marlas land have been identified for establishment of GDC Chenani out of which 28 kanals and 08 Marlas state land and 69 Kanals and 16 marlas is Shamlat Deh(Hasab Rasad Khewat) respectively.He added that earlier there were four colleges in Udhampur district and now Government has sanctioned four new colleges to cater to the demand of far-flung areas of the district which will boost the higher education scenario of the district.DDC Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla also congratulated the people for new Degree College and assured the people that college infrastructure will be developed on priority and class work will start at the institution soon.Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Chenani Abdul Sattar, Executive Engineer PWD, Parshotam Kumar besides local Sarpanches, Panches and other prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
