Gearing up for the ensuing Lok Sabha Polls, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today inspected the proposed strong rooms for the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and counting centres were to be set up during the general elections.The Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh and Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. PBS Parmar, visited these proposed strong rooms and counting centres at the local Sports College and the Office of the Director Land Records. During the inspection, he said that foolproof security arrangements would be made by the district administration at these places during the polling process. Mr. Sharma said that these centres would be set up as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.Reiterating the firm commitment of the district administration to ensure free and fair general elections, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the arrangements at these places and gave necessary directions to the officers. He said that no stone would be left unturned for ensuring that the polls were held in peaceful and transparent manner. Mr. Sharma said that elaborate arrangements would be made to ensure that the polls were conducted in a free and fair manner.Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration would put in place an elaborate system of security measures and procedural checks-and-balances aimed at ensuring foolproof security of the strong rooms. He said that these safeguards would be implemented by district administration transparently with the active and documented involvement of political parties, candidates and their representatives at every stage to build their confidence on efficacy and reliability in the electoral process.On the occasion Chief Administrator JDA Mr. Vishesh Sarangal, Sub Divisional Magistrates Mr. Paramvir Singh, Mr. Amit Kumar Panchal, Mr. Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa and Mr. Sanjeev Sharma were also present.
