Finance Deptt releases Rs 20 cr for LadliBeti

The Finance Department today released additional funds to the tune of Rs 20 crore to the Social Welfare Department for implementation of LadliBeti scheme.According to the Secretary, Social Welfare, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, with the release of additional Rs 20 crore, the allocation under the scheme for the current fiscal has gone up to Rs 32 crore.He said under this major welfare initiative aimed at arresting declining female sex ratio, a contribution of Rs 1000 per month is made by the State Government from the birth of a girl child in a family with annual income upto Rs 75000.Dr Lone said the monthly contribution from the Government continues till the girl child attains the age of 14 years and by that time she has Rs 168000 (minus interest) in her account contributed by the state.He said the scheme is currently being implemented in 8 districts of the state including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Pulwama Budgam and Srinagar.He said till date 34254 beneficiaries have been covered under the scheme.
