A District level Workshop-cum-Exhibition on Energy Efficient Building Materials organised by Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) at Government Polytechnic College, Guru Teg Bahadurgarh, Moga. It was supported by Saakaar Foundation, Chandigarh and VKe: environmental, Pune with the assistance of Indian Institute of Architects, Punjab Chapter. It will be pertinent to mention here that PEDA is organizing 22 such workshops in Punjab. One workshop will be organized in each district of the state.On this occasion Mr. Suresh Kumar, Principal gave the welcome address. Dr. Amit Manoucha, Director, Punjab Institute of Technology, GTB Garh, Moga who was the Chief Guest lauded the efforts of the PEDA in creating awareness among architects, engineers, builders and government officials about using green materials to save energy. Poonam Preet, Additional Commissioner, MC, Moga also graced the occasion and motivated professionals to design environment-friendly buildings. Architect Arpan Aggarwal from Jalandhar explained in detail which materials can be used in buildings to save energy. 

Architect Surinder Bahga, Member Advisory Committee to Union Home Ministry on Union Territories spoke on designing buildings to suit local climate and culture. Kamal Kumar Goel from ACC Limited apprised the audience about the latest developments in cement manufacturing. Prof Kapil Arora’s topic was how to design building envelope and relevance of thermal insulation in buildings. Architect Dinesh Bhagat stressed the need to take lessons from historical buildings to save energy. Engineer Uttampreet Singh spoke on “Energy-Efficient Devices”. Prof Balwinder Singh and Manwinder Singh’s talks were focused on “Green Buildings”. Other topics which are covered in the workshop include solar energy and lighting design. Use of solar energy in buildings and incentives being given by government are also explained by officials of PEDA. District incharge PEDA Anupam Nanda  motivate the promotion of solar energy in buildings. Rachit Singla from Tata BlueScope Steel Limited, explained about merits of using roofing sheets on large structures. Jagdeep Singh Sandhu presented Vote of Thanks. About 15 building materials companies put up stalls to showcase their latest products and technologies. Workshop attended by 100 persons from the entire district of Moga. It included various government departments dealing with buildings and infrastructure apart of professionals from the private field.
