Moga , 08 May 2024

To increase the voting percentage during the Lok Sabha elections this time, the Moga district administration is appealing to all sections to vote. More focus is being given to the general public to spread this message to the masses. In this regard, a voter awareness event was organized today at the main bus stand, in which Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Mr. Kulwant Singh participated as the chief guest. District SVEEP Nodal Officer Mrs. Shubhi Angra was also present at the function.

It's worth noting that Moga is a district with a majority of its population belonging to the working class. However, only a small percentage of these voters exercise their right to vote. This is why Moga District consistently lags behind other districts in voter turnout during every election.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that efforts were being made by the district administration to encourage them to participate in the voting process by contacting them personally or in public places. Our SVEEP teams are going door to door to achieve the goal of maximum voting this time. Therefore, BLOs are especially contacting those families whose family members are generally not casting their votes.

He said that similarly, data has been collected by the district administration that still approximately 10 percent of young boys and girls have not made their vote. Such boys and girls are being encouraged to register as voters and exercise their vote as necessary. Registration is being done by holding special camps in educational institutions.

He said that the district administration hoped that this time voters of all sections would exercise their right to vote. With which the vote percentage in the Moga district this time will be more than 70 percent compared to the previous elections.  In the last Lok Sabha elections, only 59 percent of votes were cast in district Moga.

He said that to achieve the target of 'Iss Baar 70 Paar' set by the Election Commission of India, attention is being paid to the registration of new voters.  IELTS centers and educational institutions are being approached to find eligible voters.

The education authorities have been instructed to speed up the registration of students who have crossed the age of 18 by the last day of nominations. He said that model polling stations, pink polling stations, polling stations for disabled employees, and polling stations for youth employees will be set up in all assembly constituencies to encourage voters to vote.

He said that women icons are working to inspire women to actively participate in the electoral process. Workers working in brick kilns, factories, and commercial complexes are being encouraged to exercise their vote.  Electoral Literacy Clubs have been activated to speed up the registration process.

On this occasion, he appealed to the residents to use their votes as voters and inspire others to strengthen the democracy of the country. Mr Gurpreet Singh Ghali District SVEEP officer was also present on the occasion.
