CEO Punjab to Undertake Awareness Programme on Electoral Participation and Ethical Voting

Aiming awareness on electoral participation and ethical voting among the young voters of the State, Dr. S. Karna Raju , Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab prepared  plan to conduct interactive session at Universities in the State, in the recent past  He already interact with the students of Journalism  and mass communication department of Panjab University, Chandigarh and Lovely Professional University, Kapurthala.Informed  a spokesperson from the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab.Giving details, he informed that students can play a very effective role to strengthen the electoral processes, so the CEO will interact with the young voters pursuing studies at university level. He will hold discussion on Voter Registration, Electoral Participation, Ethical Voting and establishment of Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELC) in the Universities.He said that the Election Commission of India works on the premise of “No Voter to be left behind” and is committed to inclusion of all categories of voters in the electoral process. In line with this, the awareness program by CEO, Punjab will further the desired objective of universal adult suffrage as per constitutional mandate.

He said that the Commission is committed to "building an equal access framework for Persons with Disability (PwDs)" so attempts will be made to enhance elector confidence among them to improve their electoral participationDuring the interactive sessions at campus level the demonstration on functioning of EVMs and VVPAT to the young voters would also be held.The interactive sessions with students at the university campus level would be undertaken at Punjabi University, Patiala, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (GNDU),Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, DAV University, Jalandhar, Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, Chandigarh University, Gharuan, Chitkara University, Chandigarh, Rayat-Bahra University, Kharar, RIMT University, Mandi Gobindgarh, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Sangrur and other educational institution in the State.
