Training prog on climate change adaptation concludes in Srinagar

The four-day training programme on Climate Change Adaptation organized by the State Climate Change Centre (SCCC-JK), Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing (EERS), concluded at IMPA here today. Commissioner Secretary Forests, Saurabh Bhagat, was the chief guest on the occasion. Director General IMPA&RD, Lokesh Jha, was also present on the occasion.Bhagat, while speaking on the occasion, termed the innovational training programme a strong source of awareness among the stakeholder institutions and the general public vis-a-vis their respective roles towards helping avert threats to the security through different forms of climate.He said such training programmes shall establish an expert group which can eventually reduce the dependency of the State on consultants from outside, adding the EERS department is committed to extending all possible assistance to all the related government functionaries for further awareness.

The Commissioner Secretary said the department is coming up with State Spatial Data Infrastructure (SSDI) and updated Atlas of Lakes and Water Bodies of Kashmir Valley for preparing State Climate Change Perspective report.Some 50 participants from the Higher Education Department and State universities besides officers from JKEDA, Agriculture, IF&C, ULB, Health, Tourism and Disaster Management departments are partaking in the training programme.The training programme organized in collaboration with the Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and NABCONS under DST sponsored NMSHE programme, was conducted with the help of internationally renowned experts in climate change.Later, the DG IMPA&RD and Commissioner Secretary distributed certificates of completion among the participants of the training workshop.
