Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh today announced that the next Congress government in the state will de-regulate the sand quarrying in the state so that nobody is able to manipulate the business. He pointed out, under the current regime the local MLA and Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia had monopolised the sand business leading to exorbitantly high prices beyond the common man’s reach.

Addressing an impressive public rally here today, Capt Amarinder issued a stern warning to Bikram Majithia against intimidating and arm-twisting the people here. He said, 2017 is not that far when he (Bikram) will have to face the music of law.

”In any case I am not going to wait that long as there are other avenues also available and even if I have to go the Honourable Supreme Court of India, I will go to seek justice for my people in Majithia”, he told to thousands of people who had gathered here to listen to him amidst the loud shouts of Bole So Nihal.

The former Chief Minister said, the law was already catching up with Bikram Majithia as he had been named in the charge-sheet in the drug scandal with dismissed DSP Bhola as the kingpin. “I am sure given the quantum of evidence that the investigators have collected against him (Bikram Majithia) he will be inside jail for a long time”, he said amidst a thundering applause. He said, Bikram Majithia deserved no sympathy as the drug trade he was patronising had ruined an entire generation. He quoted the example of Maqboolpura near Amritsar which is known as a village of ‘chitti-chunni’ (white scarfs) symbolising widowhood as about 90 per cent men have died of drug addiction. “His next target appears to be Majitha, but I won’t let him do that and hopefully he should be behind bars before that”, he said, while referring to his involvement in the drug scandal.

Referring to the huge wealth amassed by the Badals and Majithia, Capt Amarinder said, they had grabbed everything that they thought could make them money. In this context he announced that the next Congress government will de-regulate sand mining. “This sand belongs to you and you should be able to use it”, he told people, while lashing out at Badals for their greed that led to the prices of sand going up few hundred times during their tenure.

The Congress leader warned the local SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill against his partisan performance. He said, he should perform his duties as a police officer and not an Akali stooge. He said, the Congress party was pursuing the case against him and had urged the Election Commission to remove him as he had a very poor track record.Among others present on the occasion included Lali Majithia, Suwinder Singh Kathunangal, Shailenderjeet Singh Shelly, Sukh Sarkaria, Sukhjinder Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Gurjeet Aujla, Tarsem DC, Harpartap Singh Ajnala, Mandeep Manna and others.
