District Development Commissioner, Bandipora, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today reviewed the overall development scenario in the district and listed a series of measures to be taken by departments for efficient service delivery, provision of facilities and redressal of public grievances on priority. The DDC stressed on prompt intervention by departments for improvement in condition of roads, water supply, healthcare and power supply. The departments were asked to prepare fortnightly and monthly plans for achieving targets to ensure efficient public service delivery.A number of measures were discussed in the meeting including punctuality in field offices, attendance monitoring, holding public grievance redressal camps, opening of libraries and counselling centres, development of playfields, convergence in various sectors related to farming viz Rural Development, Agriculture, Forestry and Horticulture, and speedy completion of delayed projects, particularly in health, water and road sectors.The issues related to encroachments along roads and lanes, development of lanes and drainage system in towns, planned development of rural infrastructure, plantation drive for all schools, sanitation in urban and rural areas, steps for improvement in female literacy, formulation of youth clubs and leadership network, filling of Class IV vacancies, facilities to differently-abled persons and employees welfare measures were also discussed in the meeting.

Emphasis was also laid on widespread benefits to public under the J&K Public Service Guarantee Act and measures to be taken for effective implementation of RTI Act. The departments have been asked for immediate roadmaps for roll out of developmental and socio-economic projects for maximum public benefit.Dr Shahid laid stress on compulsory touring by officers to various villages to assess the developmental gaps and interventions required by various departments. He asked for eliciting maximum public participation in development planning and prioritization of works. He further directed the officers to open “Public Grievance Redressal Cell” at Mini Secretariat to coordinate with departments for resolution of public issues.The district officers were asked to regularly monitor the availability of essential services and conduct of audit facilities. Academic audit of schools, fire-safety assessment of buildings and road-safety audit of various dilapidated roads was also finalized to be taken up for enabling a planned development and fixing responsibility for lapses. The DDC directed officers to expedite land compensation cases also.Later, the DDC reviewed the progress regarding verification of construction of IHHL units under Swachh Bharat Mission and fixed timeline for completion of verification and Geo-Tagging of units latest by 25th July 2018.
