On the occasion of "World Environment Day" Punjab Energy Development Agency has made an effort to promote renewable energy & energy efficiency through workshop-cum-exhibition organized in PEDA Solar Passive Complex, Chandigarh. Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, Chief Executive Officer opened the exhibition in which energy efficient building materials such as Insulation, AAC Blocks, HVAC, Glass, Lighting, Solar PV & Hot Water, Electrical Systems & Automation were displayed by various manufacturers / vendors. More than 50 vendors participated from all over India and displayed their energy efficient building materials. While inaugurating the workshop Sh. Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa requested to adopt clean and green energy and at the same time energy saving through energy efficient materials / appliances. He categorized that 30-40% energy saving can be achieved by implementing Punjab ECBC in new buildings and 10-15% energy can be saved by implementing energy conservation measures in existing building. By using renewable energy systems along with energy efficiency considerable power can be saved which will offset the new capacity addition thereby decreasing GHG emission resulting to save the environment.

Ms. Sapna, Chief Architect Punjab emphasized upon the benefits of the Punjab ECBC which has been notified and made mandatory for buildings having connected load of 100 kW and above for construction of new buildings. He told to all the stakeholder departments, Architects, Engineers and Builders to use energy efficient building materials and design ECBC complaint building in future.Sh. Balour Singh, Executive Director, PEDA informed that PEDA is facilitating all the stakeholders through organizing capacity building programs and interactive sessions through ECBC Cell created in PEDA office for implementation of Punjab ECBC. More than 1200 Private / Govt. Architects, Engineers and Builders have been sensitized about the energy efficient materials and its use for construction of Punjab ECBC complaint buildings. The exhibition on different construction materials / appliances has been organized during the workshop & more than 150 Architects, Design Professionals, Engineers and Builder's participated in the workshop and shown the interest in the exhibited energy efficient building materials. The experts from BEE, PEDA, manufacturers have made the detailed presentations on availability and cost of energy efficient building materials.
