The Department of Animal Husbandry received Rashtriya Gokul Mission(RGM) award 2018 for best performing state in Animal Husbandry Sector. It is for the first time that the department has received such an award along with a cash prize, merit certificate and a citation. The department will continue to serve the livestock sector in order to improve the economic status of the farmers with honesty and dedication." This was stated by Balbir Singh Sidhu, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Dairy Development and Labor Minister, Punjab.He was addressing an event which was organized at village Tangori to distribute certificates to the farmers who participated in 01 week Training programme held in May, 2018 on Piggery, Goat rearing and Poultry at the same village. Balbir Singh Sidhu disclosed that the training was imparted to 58 farmers by the Department of Animal Husbandry to promote Piggery, Goat rearing and Poultry amongst the farmers and to make them self sustainable. 

The Government would provide every possible help to the farmers of the state.Dr. Amarjeet Singh, Director, Animal Husbandry, Punjab told that the training to the farmers was provided by Dr. Nipun Thakur, Dr. Nitin Gautam, Dr. Rajesh Narang and Dr. Jaspreet Kaur (all Veterinary Officers, SAS Nagar). The Department would provide training to more and more farmers to promote livestock sector in the coming days also, said Dr. Parmatama Sarup, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry, SAS Nagar.The programme was attended by more than 200 farmers who welcomed this initiative for imparting such trainings and creating self employment for the jobless youth of the state. They also demanded that such trainings should be organized regularly. The stage for the function was managed by Dr. Sarabdeep Singh, Veterinary Officer, SAS Nagar.Many others including Sh.Harkesh Chand Sharma, Political Advisor to Animal Husbandry Minister, Sh. Manjit Singh Tangori, Sarpanch and members of panchayats of adjoining villages attended this function.
