Skill Development Courses To Commence In Government Iti & Polytechnic Colleges : Charanjit Singh Channi

Main Rationale Is To Make Youth Fully Skilled

The Punjab Government is all set to commence skill development courses in Government ITIs and polytechnic colleges of the state to give a fillip to the 'Ghar Ghar Rozgar' campaign of the state government.Giving this information Technical Education and Industrial  Training and Employment Generation Minister Charanjit  Singh Channi  said courses ranging from 3-6 months’ duration would be introduced in these government institutions under the Punjab Skill Development Mission.“Dropouts or the semi-literates  will also be able to take admission in these skill development courses and attain free training,” he added. The training would cost Rs. 10,000-15,000 per student which would be borne by the state government.In the first phase, these skill development courses would be run in 22 Government ITIs and 10 polytechnics and would be introduced in more colleges later on.The minister also instructed all the heads of Government ITIs and polytechnic colleges to run these courses in collaboration with the industrial concerns operating in their respective areas. 

He also told the institutional heads to run these courses in accordance with the needs and suggestions of the industrial sector so as to ensure ample employment opportunities for the youth.The institutional heads have been told to submit  a project report on the courses they plan to run within 15 days.The minister also assured all the heads of institutions  that those exhibiting credible performance and assisting more and more youth in finding jobs would be given special incentive besides being honoured.On the occasion, Secretary of the department Mr. D.K. Tewari, General Manager Punjab Skill Development Mission Mr. Sukhwinder Singh, Additional Director Technical Education department Daljit Kaur and senior officers of the Punjab Skill Development Mission and Heads of all the Government ITIs and Polytechnic Colleges were also present.
