DPEO reviews arrangements for Panchayat Elections

District Panchayat Election Officer Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today said that no officer or official shall be exempted from duties in Panchayat elections.The DPEO, while reviewing arrangements for upcomimg Panchayat Elections in the district during a meeting of concerned officers, stressed upon the officers to put in coordinated efforts for conduct of these elections in a free and fair manner.The meeting had threadbare discussion on various aspects ranging from security arrangements, communication plan, verification of electoral rolls, marking of supplements and other requisite arrangements at polling stations as specified by Election Commission of India including transportation plan, setting up of strong rooms and collection center, collection and proper mobilization of electoral materials besides overall supervision of the election arrangements.The DPEO directed all BDOs to revisit the polling stations within a day and propose if there is requirement of setting up of auxiliary polling stations. He said that rationalization of polling stations is a crucial step as it bring the polling stations nearer to even smaller habitations for the convenience of voters and, at the same time eliminating, the scope of intimidation, silent or otherwise, which inhibits free exercise of voting rights.All the employees who have been assigned specific duties in the upcoming Panchayat elections were asked to remain stationed and seek prior station leave permission in case of any exigency.Nodal Officer for implementation of Model Code of Conduct, A S Chib, was asked to formulate sub-divisional and block level teams to ensure effective implementation of MCC whereas nodal officer for training management Dr. Abdul Khabir was directed to sensitize AROs, AEROs, polling parties etc about various aspects of election process.Present in the meeting were SSP Yougal Manhas, ACR Abdul Qayoom Mir, ACD Noor Aalam, Dy DPEO Shrikant Suse SDMs Abdul Sattar, Kartar Singh, DPO Akshay Ranjan, DTO Imran Mehmood, Dy. Registrar Cooperatives Waqar Talib, Tehsildars, BDOs and other nodal officers.
