Divisional Commissioner, Dr Mandeep K Bhandari reviewed the status of disaster management and preparedness plan being made by the respective district administrations of the division through video conferencing, here today.Detailed discussion was held on issues like procurement of rescue equipments, community based disaster management, inventory of resources, critical infrastructure, emergency operations centre besides financial aspects and other vital issues.While discussing various rescue measures needed to be taken during disasters, Dr Bhandari stressed upon the need for close coordination among different departments. He asked the concerned DCs to identify land for establishment of dedicated Emergency Operation Centres to minimize damages during disasters.He also called for chalking out effective strategies for revamping district disaster management plan including sensitization of people appropriately of the preventive measures to be taken to deal with the disaster situations, holding mock drills in educational institutions, organizing capacity building and skill development programmes at district level and involve district Red Cross Society for the purposeHe emphasized for imparting hands-on-training for individual rescue operations to volunteers so that they can give their best during disasters.
Dr. Bhandari asked the DCs to gainfully utilize funds provided under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and send UCs to the concerned quarters at the earliest.
