Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Institute (JKEDI) today organized awareness programmes in Department of Commerce (Jammu University) and NISD on the occasion of National Entrepreneurship Day to encourage the educated unemployed youth towards self-employment and entrepreneurship.The officers of JKEDI informed the youth about the initiatives and schemes of the government for making them job creators rather than job seekers. They encouraged the youth to set up their own business so that they can create jobs for the other educated unemployed youth.  

On the occasion, speakers highlighted the work of JKEDI that was established in March 1997, in encouraging culture of entrepreneurship in the State. It was said that till date JKEDI helped in setting up of more than eight thousand income generating units and trained more than 19,500 candidates. The overall success rate of the institute is evaluated as 88% in the state.The officials from the JKEDI threw light on various schemes initiated by the institute via Seed Capital Fund Scheme (SIFS), Youth Start-up Scheme(YSLS), National Minorities Development Financial Corporation (NMDFC) and Himayat.SIFS and YSLS are state sponsored schemes under Sher-e-Kashmir employment welfare program for youths (SKEWPY), NMDFC is a centre sponsored scheme especially for the unemployed youth from minority section and himayat is program under which training for 21 days has been provided to the aspiring youths who want to start their own business.On the occasion, entrepreneur Munsihwar Sudan, Harivansh Dogra, Daler Singh and Kapil Mahajan shared their experiences and success stories with the youth and guided them about various government initiatives to help them in starting their own business.
