Sports play a significant role in channelizing the energy of youth towards a right perspective besides ensuring their overall personality development.This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh while speaking at the closing ceremony of four day long BSF Inter Frontier Games of Wrestling-Boxing-Kabaddi and Weight Lifting-2017 at Hargobind Bhatnagar Stadium, BSF Campus, Paloura.A total of 1220 sportsmen of all Frontiers of Border Security Force participated in the said competitions.While lauding the efforts of BSF, Deputy Chief Minister said that these events encourage soldiers to participate and explore themselves in the field of sports. He asserted that these kind of activities help the soldiers to exhibit their talent and relax their minds so that they perform in a comfortable manner.He further said such tournaments lead to develop physical as well as mental health of soldiers which help to serve the nation at higher synergy levels. Sports not only develop leadership qualities; esprit-de-corps and discipline but also inculcate sense of brotherhood cooperation and comradeship, he added.IG BSF Ram Awtar informed the gathering that BSF, the premier border guarding Force, has the proud honour of producing sterling Sportsmen of National and international level. BSF sportsmen have brought laurels to the Nation and have held India's flag high in the sport world.Udham Singh and Ajitpal Singh have excelled in world Hockey whereas Parveen Kumar displayed his mettle in Athletic.
Mohinder Lal and Surinder Marwah had shown their talent in Shooting, Jorawar Singh in Basketball, Mahavir Singh and Subash Verma in Wrestling, Nirpjit Singh and Balwinder Singh in Volleyball and Rajeev Nagpal in Swimming. BSF also enjoys the unique distinction among all the Police Forces and has been honoured with 2 Padma Shri and 17 Arjuna Awards. During the conduct of these Competitions, talented players of various disciplines have been selected who will be put through intensive coaching at respective places of concentration under seasoned coaches.During the closing ceremony, spectacular March Past by BSF personnel, Dog Show, Yoga etc by BSF personnel and children was also performed.Dr. Nirmal Singh also distributed trophies among the winners and participantsIn Boxing, Weight Lifting and Wrestling (Free Style), Jammu Frontier bagged 1st position, in Kabaddi Punjab Frontier won 1st position and in Wrestling (Greco Roman) North Bengal Frontier and Rajasthan Frontier shared the first position. Later, the Deputy CM launched innovative products of Energy and Fire tech India Pvt Ltd at Hotel Asia.Dy CM, while speaking on the occasion, appreciated the innovative technologies which are useful in saving the lives of people and save huge pollution caused by batteries.
