With an aim to give further boost to agricultural activities here, the Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, today inaugurated an exhibition-cum-kisan mela at Tanghdar here.The Minister was accompanied by MLA Karnah, Raja Manzoor Ahmad Khan, and MLC Javid Ahmad Mirchal.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the purpose of organizing this exhibition in this remote area of the State is to bring about awareness among local farmers about scientific and innovative methods in the agriculture sector.He said various farmer-specific central and state government schemes, like Fasal Bima Yogina, Krishi Sichayi Yogina among others, are aimed at increasing the productivity and double the farmers’ income by 2022. He directed the concerned officials to conduct such exhibitions on regular basis so that farmers can avail their benefits.
Saying that the State is an agricultural-based economy with most of its population directly or indirectly reliant on the sector, Hanjura emphasized the imperativeness to provide innovative methods in agriculture by the Agriculture Department.Raja Manzoor Ahmad Khan, while speaking on the occasion, said the local population of farmers will soon see positive results of schemes sanctioned under the agriculture sector.Javid Ahmad Mirchal also spoke on the occasion and said awareness programmes about government schemes for farmers reduce dependency on imported vegetables.Agriculture, Horticulture and several other departments had set up stalls in the Kisan Maila in which new machinery in agriculture sector were displayed. Later, the Minister also inaugurated the Inspection Hut cum Guest House at Drigla Titwal.
