The Local Government Department, Punjab has approved 100 acres of land of Nagar Panchayat Sri Chamkaur Sahib for the prestigious project pertaining to establishment of a Skill and Vocational University as announced by the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh in the State Assembly.

Disclosing this here today in a statement, the Local Government Minister, Punjab, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu said that the skill and vocational university to come up on the historical land of Sri Chamkaur Sahib would be a tribute to the martyrdom of the ‘Vadde Sahibzaade’. He further elaborated that during the budget session of the State Assembly, the Technical Education Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi had demanded a university at Sri Chamkaur Sahib to impart quality professional education to the youth of the state. The demand was accepted on the spot by the Chief Minister who had announced to set up a skill & vocational university at Sri Chamkaur Sahib.

Mr. Sidhu also divulged that the Nagar Panchayat Sri Chamkaur Sahib had passed a resolution regarding the demand of land required for the university which has been accepted by the Local Government Department today and approved the 100 acre land. He also said that the previous regime totally neglected the needs of the youth of the state which resulted in the unemployment increasing by leaps and bounds and the youth are either sitting at home or heading towards foreign shores. The minister further added that whereas the Chief Minister has taken the initiative of ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’ to provide jobs to the youth , on the other hand the Punjab Government is also sparing no effort to train the youth in professional and technical skills in keeping with the demands and needs of the industrial sector. He emphatically said that the university would be a pioneer in equipping the youth with latest technical and professional skills thus paving the way of ample employment avenues for them.
