Power defaulters fined in Rajouri

In the ongoing drive against power defaulters in Rajouri district, as many as Rs 10 lakh were imposed on violators in less than a week.The drive has been launched by the District Administration through Power Development Department (Electric Maintenance and Rural Electrification) and assisted by Police and Executive Magistrates. It was said that the Department conducted 37 inspections at various locations in the district today in which Rs 1.51 Lakh fine were imposed and 21 connections involving a load of 17.50 KW were regularised and brought under the ambit of power tariff.So far, 555 inspections have been conducted during which 251 connections involving a total load of 212.25 KW have been regularized. The drive against illegal connections has been started in view of power theft leading to drainage of state resources and also causing unscheduled power cuts due to unauthorized load.It was given out that Rs 1,91,817 fine has been imposed in Rajouri-I Sub-Division, Rs 4,53,481 in Rajouri-II,  Rs 52,000 in Nowshera, Rs 2,67,826 in Sunderbani and Rs 60,500 in Koteranka. A maximum number of 89 connections have been regularized in Rajouri-II while lowest 11 number of connections in Sunderbani.The District Administration has stressed upon power consumers to get their illegal power connections regularized to avoid disconnection and fine apart from penal action.The District Development Commissioner Rajouri today reviewed the progress and directed the SDM to ensure complete assistance to Power Department and also work for greater public coordination.It was informed that a monitoring cell in the office of District Development Commissioner oversees the daily enforcement progress and replacement of transformers.
