Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat and Union Minister of State in PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh today launched ‘Cornea Andhatv Mukt Bharat Abhyan (CAMBA)’, a campaign taken up by Saksham J&K and National Medicos Organization in collaboration with Eye Bank, Government Medical College Jammu. Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, President Saksham J&K Dr Prem Sagar Gupta and Principal and Dean GMC, Jammu Dr Sunanda Raina and All India organizing Secretary Saksham Dr. SU Kumar were also present on the occasion.

While addressing the gathering, Dr. Jitendra Singh asked the authorities to ensure proper maintenance of   crucial equipments in the vital units of GMC for larger interest of the ailing humanity. He also impressed upon them to maintain hygienic environment in the hospital which is pre-requisite for health of the patient.

The Union Minister said that there is a need to spread the message of Eye donation in community congregations, social functions and by organizing awareness camps on regular intervals.“The number of people with cataract is said to be about 16 million in India in 2016. Although cataracts can be surgically removed, in rare cases Eye transplant would be needed for which experienced doctors are needed,” Dr. Jitendra Singh said.Speaking on the occasion, Bali Bhagat said that many people are keen to donate corneas to help people with vision impairment, but the state doesn’t had an Eye bank and provision for organ donations and transplants. He said much progress has been made in this regard now and many crucial surgeries are being conducted in the Hospital.
