District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar held a meeting to review the progress on implementation of schemes under education and health sector.DDC reviewed the progress on  developing infrastructure viz class rooms, boundary walls etc under  Centrally Sponsored flagship programmes Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan besides several works  undertaken under district and state plan.Concerned officers of education department gave a detailed account on assets created under SSA, RMSA, district and state plan. It was given out in the meeting that construction of as many as 40 additional class rooms in 20 different schools of the district were taken up by district administration besides boundary walls of 33 schools were taken up and completed under convergence with rural development department during the last financial year. It was also informed that 133 schools building which were not completed during the last five years were completed in last one year under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan( SSA).DDC directed CEO Kathua to submit DPR of such school building which were damaged and want repair so that the same can be projected for seeking funds. He also passed directions for taking up 20 schools building which were kept abandoned.While directing executing agencies, DDC called for timely completion of ingoing work of school buildings in the district. He also called upon the authorities of the education department to ensure proper rationalization of teaching staff in government run schools.Zonal Education Officers, Zonal Physical Education Officers, and engineers of SSA were also present on the occasion.

Later, the DDC also held a detail review of health department in a meeting which was attended by District, Block Officers of the Health department, ACD Kathua besides engineers of PWD, REW, JKPCC and others.Chief Medical Officer Kathua gave a brief of physical and financial achievements under various schemes of the health department.Underlining the important role played by the ASHAs, DDC said that the need of the hour is to motivate this work force so that they can further promote institutional deliveries in the rural areas. Terming them as the backbone of the NHM scheme, he said they act as the first port of call for any health related demands of rural population, especially women and children. DDC further directed the CMO and BMOs for holding regular meetings with the field staff to improve functioning of the department.Taking strong note of slow pace of construction works, DDC directed health authorities for close monitoring of ongoing construction works of all buildings viz Primary Health Centres, Sub Centres, dispensaries besides up gradation of infrastructures in several health institutions. He called for timely completion of projects so that the people of the district, especially residing in hilly and far-flung areas, can get access to health services.Besides, he also directed Health department functionaries to ensure effective implementation of   various health and hygiene related schemes in coordination with other government department and agencies.  He stressed on creating mass   awareness regarding   balanced diet and immunization.
