She came with tears in her eyes and went back a happy woman. And she was not alone. Some 30-odd men and women, from different walks of life, came to meet Captain Amarinder Singh at his residence on Thursdaymorning to share their woes and problems at the first such public hearing of grievances held by the Punjab Chief Minister. The Chief Minister heard them all out patiently and directed the concerned officials to process and resolve the complaints at the earliest. He assured the people that his government would ensure that their grievances are settled promptly, in a smooth and hassle-free manner.Reiterating his commitment to wiping out all their tears and bringing the lost smiles back to their faces, Captain Amarinder said a system of transparent governance was being put in place to ease the process of grievance redressal, so that the ordinary people of the state do not have to run from pillar to post to get their problems heard and sorted out.

Disturbed at the range of problems faced by the people due to the harassment faced from various quarters during the erstwhile SAD-BJP rule, the Chief Minister asked his team of officials to act promptly and without delay to alleviate their sufferings on priority.

“People have elected us on faith, with the belief that we will bring them out of their miseries. We will not let them down,” he told the officials accompanying him during the interactions. While one woman had come for help in getting a government job on compassionate grounds following the death of her husband, another person came with a complaint of continued harassment at the hands of the Badals’ OSDs, who had emerged as power centres during the previous government rule. The Chief Minister assured them of immediate assistance and relief, making it clear that he would brook no laxity in this regard. He also asked the concerned officials to look into the complaint of continued harassment by the Badals’ cronies in Lambi and other parts of the state and reiterated his promise to end the cycle of victimisation of ordinary people at their hands. From pending transfers to postings, from clearance of dues to admissions – the Chief Minister directed immediate steps to examine the issues and address them at the earliest. He declared his intent to put in place a robust framework to address public grievances and problems, and also to take public feedback, on a regular basis.
