The focus of district administration is to dedicate this year's Baisaikhi festival towards bolstering the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padao scheme apart from highlighting other vital flagship programmes.District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar, informed this while reviewing arrangements for 2-day historic Billawar Baisakhi Mela during a meeting of officers and members of Mela committee here today.It was decided in the meeting that the two day event will be organised at Naaz Sports Ground, Billawar on 13th and 14th of April.DDC constituted a committee under the supervision of SDM Billawar to finalize the calendar of activities and necessary arrangements for the mela.The DDC informed that the district administration will make all necessary arrangements for success of two day historic Mela. He held threadbare discussion on the arrangements related to provision of drinking water, uninterrupted power supply; foolproof security arrangements, cleanliness and sanitation in and around the Mela ground, parking, seating arrangements and installation of stalls were finalized.DDC exhorted upon the officers to make coordination with Mela committee to make Mela a grand success. He directed the departments of horticulture, handicraft, handloom and other departments to showcase various products in their respective stalls and sensitize people about various flagship programmes of state as well as central Government.DDC also called upon the Seers to sensitize people regarding gender equality and further asked all the stakeholders to participate and celebrate the ‘Janmotsav’ of girl child under the initiative undertaken by the District administration under BBBP.

DDC informed the meeting that during the Mela, painting competition, sports activities, cultural items depicting rich Dogra and Pahari culture by the local artists will be presented to provide entertainment to the populace.Later, the DDC reviewed the preparedness for Digi Dhan Mela to be organized on 14th April wherein District Administration is going to create awareness about usefulness of opting for cashless transactions among the populace besides teaching methods of cashless transactions and how to get registered to use services, PAN and Aadhaar seeding with bank accounts.DDC also directed the Lead Bank Manager, Kathua to sensitize the people regarding making transaction with POS and other cashless  methods of transaction during 2 day Baisakhi Mela besides ACD was directed to facilitate the streaming of PM address at block offices on 14th April.Members of Mela committee also gave their suggestions which were discussed in detail during the meeting.Among others Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua, CEO LSDA, PO ICDS, GM DIC, ACD, ACR, SDM Billawar, DPO and other district officers besides members of the Mela Committee attended the meeting.
