Director Department of Information and Public Relations Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and Head, WWF-India State Office, J&K Dr Pankaj Chandan today released a special awareness video on Earth Hour for Jammu and Kashmir.The video was released at a function organized by the department at the office premises on the eve of Earth Hour, which is observed across the globe on March 25 every year.Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shahid informed that the State Government has joined hands with WWF for Earth Hour-2017 programme to create awareness among the people about the importance of energy in our lives. “Whatever energy we use, it comes from nature and it is important for every section of the society to realize the importance of energy,” he added.Giving details of the Earth Hour video, Dr Shahid said the Department in partnership with WWF-India has worked on an innovative idea of producing a short film on Earth Hour this year. 

The messages from top leaders of the State including the Governor N N Vohra have been included in this film, he informed.He further informed that various aspects related to the citizens’ role in protecting the natural resources have been highlighted in the film. The short film will be uploaded on various digital platforms to spread the message about energy and nature conservation in the society, he added.In his address, Dr Pankaj Chandan informed that Earth Hour is a global campaign which unites people across the globe to combat climate change. Societies now celebrate Earth Hour to show their solidarity with nature, he stressed.Joint Director, Information (Headquarters), Abdul Majid Zargar, Joint Director, Information Jammu, Manisha Sarin, Deputy Director, Information Sheikh Zahoor-ul-Haq, Senior Project Officer, WWF-India Rohit Rattan, Project Officer, WWF-India Pushpinder Singh Jamwal, besides the staff members of the department and WWF-India were present in the function.
