Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today reviewed the progress of various development projects   in Government Medical College Jammu here at a high level meeting of functionaries of concerned departments.The Government has started various projects for creation of additional infrastructure in the premier health institute of the state.The meeting was attended by the officers of Health and Medical Education, R&B, NHM and Planning departments. The Minister reviewed the functioning of the Hospital and implementation of the recommendations of Medical Council of India (MCI) with regard to creation of additional infrastructure in the College as per the requirements.The Minister stressed upon the authorities to work in synergy and ensure that the staff perform their duties with dedication and devotion so that the people visiting this busiest Hospital of the State do not face any inconvenience. He said any laxity in this behalf would not be tolerated. He said that every official has to realize his responsibility in serving the people.The Minister said the Government is committed to provide better medical facilities and impart quality medical education to the medicos studying in the medical colleges of the state.

He also said health has been flagged as priority sector by the government and in this regard several reformative initiatives are underway including revamping of the health infrastructure in all government hospitals of the state.The Minister was apprised that work on additional examination Hall at GMC taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 5.46 crore is in progress. It was said that   Rs 3.50 crore has been incurred on the construction. The meeting was informed that the work on conversion of lecture hall into Library at an estimated cost of Rs 2.77 crore is also in progress.It was also given out in the meeting that in order to create additional infrastructure in the Hospital premises, the work on Rural Health Training Centres for Boys and Girls taken up at a cost of Rs 5.98 crore, demonstration rooms at a cost 1.48 crore, pre-fabricated structure for record room at a cost of 54 lacs, and creation of High Dependency Ward at a cost of 77 crore is in progress.Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education Dr. M.K. Bandari, Principal GMC Dr Sunanda Raina besides other officers from various departments viz Planning, Finance, NHM, R&B, Medical Superintendents of Associate hospitals and other officials were present in the meeting.
