DDC Kulgam launches plantation drive

District Development Commissioner Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat, today inaugurated plantation drive in the district by planting tree saplings at the premises of Government Degree College Kulgam. Held in collaboration with the Forest Department, as many as 400 deodar saplings were planted in the compound of the College. On the occasion, the DDC said that 2.85 lakh saplings will be planted during this year’s plantation drive. It was said that, so far, 1.25 lakh saplings have been already planted at various locations in the district.The DDC sought cooperation of the students in ensuring a clean, vibrant and healthy environment in Kulgam district.  He said that sustainable development should be the prioritised goal of our society whereby needs and demands of our future generations should be kept in mind.He said that the recurrence of natural calamities like floods and unanticipated droughts are a direct consequence of the unwarranted and injudicious lifestyles. He called for reorientation of living styles so that the carrying capacity of our natural ecosystem is not compromised.Later, a seminar was held at the College wherein the participants highlighted the need of conversation of nature and natural resources like forest and water bodies.
