Programme on ODF held, students pledge to launch campaign in their respective areas

A one day programme, as part of Swach Bharat Mission (SBM) and ongoing ODF campaign, was held here today to raise awareness among the people about the significance of keeping our environment healthy and hygienic for a disease free life.Aimed at to get the district free from open defecation, the event was attended by over two hundred students and college teachers.The students of Govt Degree College Reasi pledged to further intensify the ongoing ODF campaign to convince their parents and neighborers for constructing toilets in their houses. They also committed to start morning and evening follow up sessions in their connected vicinities to educate and motivate local people who are unaware of ill effects and diseases being spread due to menace of defecating in open environment.District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar, presented a detailed lecture on disadvantages of defecating in open areas and its direct impact on health and hygiene on people of all ages. The programme laid stress on educating and preparing the people mentally for constructing toilets through the students who belong to different areas of the district and have wider outreach.On the occasion, the students also explained the sanitation conditions of their respective areas and public preparedness towards this SBM programme.Among others Additional Deputy Commissioner Babu Ram, Principal Hemla Aggarwal, Tehsildar Thakrakote Rajesh Baru, experts and field functionaries were present on the occasion.
