Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK),President,  Dr G M Mir has taken a serious stakeholders note of a survey conducted by Union Health Ministry which was published by an English local daily in which it has been observed that rural heath care in J&K is defunct in many ways and needs a complete restructuring. In a statement issued here, a spokesperson of DAK said that it has been since long saying and stressing upon the govt about an acute shortfall of health care particularly in rural areas but it seems that the voice is falling to deaf ears.Dr Mir Waseem, Physician Specialist and Executive Member of DAK said that there is no policy rather there is “Policy-Paralysis” on the part of govt.He further said that a comprehensive policy for health needs to be framed by the stakeholders into consideration ie, doctors, administrators, civil society members.

Dr Suhail Naik, Pediatrician and also Executive member of DAK said that there should be proper rationalization of specialists along with facility up gradation. “In the present policy often it is seen that dermatologist is doing the work of Gynaecologist and radiologist is made to do a work of General Physician thus diluting and wasting their talent and training due to the wrong policies of the govt.”Dr Irfan ul Shams, ENT Specialist and Executive Member of the DAK said that due to the  inefficient health policy there are no academic refreshment courses like “Continuing Medical Education” (CME), short training courses, conferences etc which will help in keeping the doctors  abreast  and up-to-date with the latest technologies and will ultimately help in maintaining competence.DAK stressed upon the Hon’ble Health Minister, Bali Bhagat, MoS Health, Asiea Naqash, Commissioner Secretary, Dr MK Bhandari, Director Health Services, Jammu and Kashmir, to frame a comprehensive health policy which is the need of hour and is long due.
