Sharjah Women's Sports Foundation (SWSF) has once again played a leading role in celebrating National Sports Day, at Al Majaz Waterfront, Sharjah's popular leisure destination.Now in its second year, National Sports Day is celebrated across the country with a series of sporting activities, in order to encourage all members of the community to participate in sports and lead a healthier lifestyle.SWSF organised an array of sporting activities at the Waterfront to promotethe culture of sports in general, and advance women's sports in particular. Among the activities, basketball, archery, table tennis, cycling and much more drewcitizens, residents and visitors to Sharjah. The foundation also organised an ‘edutainment’ event and sports camp.The event was attended by Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC), and Sheikh Saud Al Mualla, Chairman of Sharjah Chess Club. Also attending were Major General Dr. Ahmed Al Raisi, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the National Sports Day, Ali Salem Al Midfa, Deputy Chairman of SSC, Abdul Aziz Al Nouman, Secretary General of Sharjah Sports Council, HE Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director General of SWSF, and other members and staff of SSC and SWSF.

HE Nada Al Naqbi sees the event as an excellent way to encourage both health and excellence in competitive sport. “The Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation is providing an ideal platform for girls and women to enjoy and participate in sports more and to discover and improve their own capabilities, which is perfectly aligned with Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Chairperson of SWSF, own directives.” Al Naqbi added “We are constantly looking to expand women’s participation in all sporting areasso that they can participate in regional and international competitions.”Earlier in the day at the SWSF gymnasium, the Foundation hosted Khawla Bint Tha’laba Primary and Secondary School and the principal Jameela Abdul Aziz AlMeqhawai, who said the event is another example of the nation bringing out the best in its people.Jameela Abdul Aziz Al Meqhawaicommented saying, “It is wonderful to see the enjoyment of those taking part and also to understand the importance of sports and competition, not just for recreation, but also as a mindset and life skill. The UAE has become one of the most supportive countries in the region to encourage women's sports and help them to build and develop their capabilities.”His Highness Sheikh Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah issued an Emiri decree in November 2016 establishing SWSF. The foundation enjoys financial and administrative independence with full capacity to perform the legal acts necessary to achieve its goals. SWSF is chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. She is aided by an advisory committee comprising highly experienced members with a cumulative vast amount of knowledge in the field. 

About the Sharjah Women Sports Foundation:

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri Decree to set up the Sharjah Women Sports Foundation in November 2016. It will have financial and administrative autonomy, legal authority and full capacity to conduct all necessary legal procedures to achieve its objectives. The foundation will operate under Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, who will act as chairperson and be assisted by an advisory committee.
