Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today convened a meeting to promote awareness on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in various colleges of Jammu region.Dr Samoon discussed the status of 17 SDGs in detail with 17 selected Principals of Jammu region.He appreciated the role of government colleges in promoting awareness about UN SDGs which, he said, will go a long way in helping the state and the country in achieving their targets. He also advised the College Principals for opening of Peace Clubs and Gandhi Centres in respective colleges.Padmashree awardee, S P Verma, President Gandhi Global Family, J&K informed the meeting about the significance of SDGs and urged the colleges for establishing peace clubs, holding goal specific seminars, besides celebrating various UN days.17 colleges of Jammu region were selected with each college being assigned one goal for generating mass awareness. The colleges included GDC Samba, GDC Reasi, GDC Poonch, GCW Gandhi Nagar, GDC Rajouri, GDC Kishtwar, Commerce, GDC Udhampur, M.A.M College, GGCW Parade ,GDC R.S. Pura, GDC Paloura, GDC Akhnnoor, GDC Ramban , GDC Doda  and GDC Kathua.S P Varma disclosed that Gandhi Global family will facilitate 17 students, one each from these 17 institutions to visit UN Head Quarters, New Delhi.
