Terming Legal Metrology Department (LMD) as an important organ of the government, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Choudhary Zulfkar Ali on Sunday said that an effective mechanism is being evolved to further streamline working of this vital unit for larger interest of consumers in the state.The Minister said this after laying the foundation of Working Standard Laboratory Complex of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) here at Akhnoor.MLA Akhnoor Rajeev Sharma was also present on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that LMD is a consumer centric department and its aim is to safeguard the consumers from unscrupulous traders. He said since everyone among the population in the State is a consumer in one or the other form, therefore, it is important that every possible step is taken to make the system more effective.Stressing on need for infrastructural development of the department, the Minister said despite the remarkable progress that the department made over the past months both in terms of work and profile still there is need to upgrade the existing infrastructural facilities to deliver even better.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Central government for providing Rs 6 crore funding for revitalizing and restructuring LMD in the state and assured that the state government would work untiringly to harp more finances for the department to make it more vibrant for larger interest of consumers.

Zulfkar Ali informed that this Central financial assistance would be expended on construction of new buildings for LMD in districts besides equipping the checking squads with latest technical knowhow. He said efforts are being made to construct one LMD building in every district of the State.The Minister urged upon the State Housing Board to complete the construction work on these buildings within shortest possible time. Zulfkar Ali said the present dispensation is working earnestly towards creating a conducive and comfortable atmosphere for its employees so that they deliver the best to the public.The Minister appreciated MLA Akhnoor, Rajeev Sharma for highlighting the issues faced by the people in his constituency which is important to get such issues redressed. Secretary, FCS&CA, and Controller LMD Shafiq Raina, SDM Akhnoor, Sunina Sharma, Director FCS&CA, Jammu G S Chib, Joint Controller, Jammu, Legal Metrology Department, V S Sambyal , Deputy Controller Manoj Prabakhar and other concerned officers attended the function.
