Less than a week after he was named the AAP candidate from Amritsar Central assembly segment, Darbari Lal returned to the Congress fold on Wednesday , saying he had realized the party, led by Captain Amarinder Singh, was the only hope of succour for the crisis-ridden state of Punjab.Lal’s homecoming into the Punjab Congress was witnessed, among others, by Pubjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh, who said it marked yet another dent in Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had been thoroughly exposed as an organization of self-serving individuals, many of whom were caught in corruption and sex scandals.Captain Amarinder said Darbari Lal had left the Congress earlier due to some genuine grudges he had with the party, which had now been sorted out and he had hence decided to rejoin and help all the party candidates in Amritsar.Lal told mediapersons on his return to the Congress that he had no desire for a ticket and only wanted to serve the state, which was why he had decided to leave the corrupt and selfish AAP, even though he had got the ticket from Arvind Kejriwal’s party to contest the Assembly polls.
Charging AAP and its leadership with having a destructive mentality, which was detrimental to the interest of Punjab, Lal said the party was a rank outsider with no base in the state. He recalled that Captain Amarinder’s era was a golden period for Punjab, with investments coming in a big way and employment generation ensuring that the youth remained in the mainstream of the society.Others present on the occasion included MLA Raj Kumar Verka, AICC Secretary Harish Chaudhary and PPCC General Secretary Sanjeev Arora.Lal, a three-time Congress MLA and former Congress deputy speaker in the state assembly, had earlier moved to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014 and later left the party to join AAP.
