Punjab Democratic Party(PDP) has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court in which it has said that seeking votes on the basis of caste, community, religion or language is illegal.Er.Gurkirpal Singh President of PDP in a statement here today said that it was a landmark judgment and its impact would be felt in coming assembly elections in Punjab and other states. He said that judgment was slap on the face of political parties which are seeking votes on religon and castes. He said that there was trend among traditional political parties SAD, BJP and Congress to approach religious heads of various sects and also create communal divide to get votes.Er.Gurkirpal Singh said that recent attempts by politicians to create communal tension with burning of Holy Scriptures of Guru Granth Sahib and Quran Shrif were condemn-able and with this judgment,  the guilty politicians and their parties would be under EC scanner. He said that in times to come the pattern of voting may change from community, caste and religion to development and performance of governments.
