Chairperson, J&K State Social Welfare Board Dr (Prof) Nirmal Gupta has sought the cooperation of the Central Government in introducing new schemes for the welfare of the people.Dr. (Prof.) Nirmal Gupta was speaking during the 6th Annual Board meeting of the Governing Body and Executive Committee of the J&K State Social Welfare Board held here today.Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson presented view of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes being implemented by the Social Welfare Board in J&K State. Dr Gupta said the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India should introduce new welfare schemes through Central Social Welfare Board (CSWB) so that more people can be benefited. Making reference to skill development programmes, she desired that the CSWB should divert such schemes to the State Social Welfare Board to make the mission of raising the level of BPL to APL, a meaningful and realistic exercise.She urged the Board Members to guide the Board with their valued suggestions and experience so that the benefits can reach to every corner of the State.

During the meeting, Executive Director & Secretary, J&K State Social Welfare Board Shahid Mehmood Dar presented the agenda items. The committee approved the actions taken by the J&K State Social Welfare Board for issuing continuations sanctioning for grants allotted to Voluntary Organizations for the various activities.Pertinent to mention that CSWB has sanctioned 3.18 crore for 446 decentralized Crèche Centers during the year 2015-16 which stands already released by J&K State Social Welfare Board.  For the current financial year the allocation to the tune of Rs 6.76 crore is expected for running 446 crèche units. In addition to this J&K State Social Welfare Board has also sanctioned an amount of Rs 12.80 lakhs for 4 decentralized Family Counseling Centers and has already released an amount of Rs. 5.76 Lakhs as Fist installment.The JKSSWB is also expecting continuation of 24 Family Counseling Centers from Central Social Welfare Board amounting to Rs. 76.80 Lakhs for 24 Centralized Family Counseling Centers. The Board appreciated the innovative actions of the Chairperson in which general masses have been requested to donate the toys or funds for toys in the given bank account and the scheme has been named as “Toy Bank Scheme” for the poor children of the State studying in Crèche Centers. 

Similarly the Medicines/pharmaceuticals can be donated for such children.Other innovative projects have also been submitted to the Govt. of India for welfare and development of the downtrodden children. Such innovative steps of the Chairperson have been appreciated by the Board Members.Board has also agreed for writing to Finance Department and Planning Department or keeping Rs. 2 crore as corpus fund at the disposal of Social Welfare Board for organizing awareness programmes.The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Social Welfare Department Mir Tariq, Director Radio Kashmir Jammu Anajli Sharma, Joint Director School Education P S Kakroo, Joint Director Rural Development Department Mr. Shabir Shafi, Prof. Deepshika Kotwal of Central University Jammu, Assistant Director Health & Medical Education Department Yash Pal, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, Dinesh Gupta, Nisar Ahmed Kathjoo of Help Poor Voluntary Trust and Ex-Special Secretary Chandra Gupta.
