A delegation of Association for the Welfare of Senior Citizens Jammu led by its President Mr. A.K. Arora, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.The delegation requested the Governor, who is also the Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, to help the Association build an Old Age Home or a Pay and Stay Hostel for the old age people with the support of the Shrine Board. They urged the Governor to impress upon the State Government to: adopt a State Policy for the maintenance and welfare of senior citizens and enact “National Policy on Older Persons” and “Act for Maintenance and Welfare of Senior Citizens, 2007” to protect senior citizens from abuse and ill treatment at all levels; and making the “State Level Advisory Council for Welfare of Senior Citizens” functional at the earliest.The Governor assured the delegation that all their concerns shall be taken up with the State Government.
