To cope-up with the huge rush of patients in the emergency of Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu, the Government will soon add another 100 beds to the existing capacity. Besides, the Chopra Nursing Home will also be connected with the Emergency Block to ensure its optimum use for the patient-care.The decision for augmenting the bed capacity of present emergency block was taken during the visit of Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat to the Government Medical College Hospital today.Secretary Health & Medical Education, Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Principal GMC, Dr Zahid Gilani, Medical Superintendents of GMC and Super-Specialty Hospital, engineers and other senior officers of the Health & Medical Education Department were present on the occasion.

The Minister issued specific instructions to the authorities of GMC and Super-Specialty Hospitals for further improving the services for the patients and their attendants. He directed for submitting the DPRs within a week’s time for the expansion of bed capacity in the Emergency Block by connecting it with the Chopra Nursing Home, earmarking specific space for parking, landscaping of the idle space in the premises of the GMC, re-alignment of main gates to ensure hassle-free movement of vehicles, face-lifting of the College building and premises to give these an aesthetic look.For evacuating the critically ill patients by Helicopters, especially those injured in border firing, the Minister directed for exploring possibility for establishing a Helipad in the Super-Specialty Hospital. 

He directed for submitting DPRs to this effect within next few days.Speaking to the media-persons on the occasion, the Health Minister said the Government Medical College Jammu being a premier institution of winter capital of the State caters to the heavy rush of patients from across the Jammu region, besides huge number of Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims and migratory labour, therefore, it is mandatory on the part of Government to add more space and facilities according to the patient inflow. He directed the authorities to pay focused attention to the sanitation in and around the hospital and making best management of parking enabling free movement of ambulances and other vehicles coming to the hospital.
