Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today visited Jhiri Mela and paid obeisance at the Baba Jitto & Bua Kaudi devsthan. While addressing the gathering, the Minister said Baba Jitto sacrificed his life for the upliftment of poor and weak farmers. We must remember his supreme sacrifice and follow his footsteps for the betterment of the society, he added.The Minister also inaugurated awareness camp being put up by Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), Water & Sanitation Support Organization of Department of PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control in the mela. The programme was organized to create awareness among the people about the importance of clean drinking water, judicious use of water, testing of water and ill-effects of open defecation.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that these programmes should be organized in all districts of the state at regular intervals for spreading the message of maintaining cleanliness in canals and saving water for the future generation. The CCDU organized cultural programmes, nukkad nataks, distributed pamphlets and displayed hoardings in the mela for educating the masses about the benefits of clean drinking water. The Minister appreciated the efforts of Management Committee of Jhiri Mela and district administration for making fool proof security arrangements at the Mela.Later, the Minister inspected Water Supply Scheme, Jhiri and directed the officers to ensure that the people get clean drinking water daily. The WSS, Jhiri supplies water to various villages including Kalyanpur, Sama Chak, Panjore, Hari Singh Krat, Mani Chak and Jhiri.Chief Engineer, I&FC Rajeev Gandotra, Executive Director Rajiv Malhotra, SDM Marh Ved Parkash and officer of district administration were present on the occasion.
