Chief Secretary, B R Sharma convened a high-level meeting here today to take stock of the situation arising in the State in the aftermath of demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes by the Government of India.Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, B B Vyas, Principal Secretary Home, R K Goyal and Commissioner/Secretary Finance, Navin Kumar Choudhary were present in the meeting.The Commissioner/Secretary Finance informed that the matter has been reviewed with the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir Bank and it has been assured that there is no dearth of currency notes of Rs 100 denomination in the banks across the State and transactions were taking place smoothly. The requirement of currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 is being met shortly. The banks have also made adequate arrangements for dealing the rush of customers in all the branches.The Chief Secretary observed that necessary instructions to all the Deputy Commissioners have been issued to provide requisite support including security to the banks to cope up the rush of the clientele wherever required. He also directed the divisional and district administrations to issue an appeal to the general masses not to be panicky with the new system and cooperate in maintaining the smooth transactions in the banks. He said there is plenty of time for depositing and replacing the old currency notes by the people in the banks.
